direct·voice the Political Action Committee of the Direct Marketing Association
direct·voice, the Political Action Committee of the Direct Marketing Association is the leading Political Action Committee focused on advancing the interests of the direct marketing industry.
According to the law, corporations and trade associations, like The DMA, may not contribute directly to federal candidates (either by dues or otherwise). Therefore, The DMA has created its own political action committee, direct·voice, to raise money to help candidates for Congress who are important to direct marketing interests.
A PAC is a legal, approved, straightforward and efficient method for a group of like-minded individuals to communicate with legislators and help them financially by pooling their campaign contributions. PACs make it possible for a group of individuals to inform and educate legislators more effectively than if contributors acted alone.
Decisions as to which candidates direct·voice will support are determined by the PAC Advisory Board which includes 18 senior executives from the various segments of the direct marketing industry. The Advisory Board is chaired by Kelly Browning of the American Institute for Cancer Research with Jennifer Barrett of ACXIOM Corporation serving as Vice Chairman. Also serving on the Advisory Board is DMA President & CEO John A. Greco, Jr.

BACKGROUND
The DMA PAC was formed twenty years ago in order to increase awareness about direct marketing and to lend support to those political candidates who impact the industry. In 1995 the Association began a major campaign to increase both the PAC's size and its effectiveness, starting with the formation of the DMA PAC Advisory Board and a name change to direct·voice. The PAC board, which includes executives from the full spectrum of the direct marketing industry, plays a major role in all aspects of the political action committee's endeavors, including deciding to whom the committee will contribute.
DM IMPACT
The funds raised by the PAC were contributed to Members of Congress and candidates for Congress who have been sensitive to the interests of direct marketing, or are in a position to influence legislation affecting the direct marketing industry.
We strongly encourage DMA member companies to authorize the PAC to solicit its executives. For information on the PAC, contact DMA’s Vice President/Government Affairs, Tom Foulkes, at 202.861.2415, or via e-mail at directvoice@the-dma.org.
